Western Karate Union Squad Report 

English Karate Federation Kyu Grade Championships 2018
Coaches in attendance Mark Haynes, Darren Haynes, Rory Daniels and Steve Ward.

The EKF Championships were held in Leicester at the Leicester Sports Arena. The championships were held over 2 days this year with the under 16’s on Saturday the 13th of January and over 16 years on Sunday the 14th.

The fighting got underway in the early afternoon with a new member of the squad Kendra Johnstone. Kendra faught very well through her first 2 rounds but was unfortunately beat in the 3rd Round, also Isabelle Freyer reached the third round in her respective category.
Sasha fought strong through to the final of her category to take gold the first one of the weekend for The WKU.

All the under 16’s fought very well and with great spirit with Avani Kilsby and Ben Clark unfortunately being knocked out in the first round. Aston Prideaux, Charlotte Harmer, Calum Mounce all reached the 2nd round in all their respective categories.

The over 16 year old kicked off on Sunday around 11am with Billy Haynes on first fighting strong through to the final to take gold, next up were Rachel Taylor and Lauren Bickley who fought to meet in the final with Rachel taking Gold and Lauren taking Silver. Last for the weekend fighters was Mitchel Wyatt-Sugg’s Category where he took gold.
