Western Karate Union hosted its annual Winter Open Invitational on Sunday 25th November at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, Weston-super-Mare.

A big thank you to all the officials for their outstanding efforts.

With over 500 entries we had only one injury where the medics advised the contestant to go to hospital and no major issues on the Tatamis. Testament to the quality of refereeing under Ivor Thomas’s experienced leadership and to the hard work and dedication from his team of referees and officials.

A special thank you to Brian Jarvis who flew back from Paris early this morning then drove from Heathrow Airport direct to the Competition to Officiate. This commitment that Brian, and the rest of you, give is what makes the Competition a success not only for the WKU but for Karate in general. The Table Officials also did an outstanding job. For some it was their first time “going live” but they were very professional.

Congratulations to James Govin-Summers who was promoted to WKU Referee due to his outstanding efforts on the Tatamis at this tournament.

And a final indication of a well run-event – we were finished and cleared up way before 6.00pm!
