On the evening of Tuesday May 22 we were thrilled to see Western Karate Union’s gold medal athlete, Sarah Clark, running in Bristol with the 2012 Olympic Torch. Bristol was one of the first major cities the torch visited in the UK. In fact, the 800 grams golden torch arrived in Bristol on the its fourth day in the country.

The torch is perforated by 8,000 circles that represent the inspirational stories of the 8,000 torchbearers, including Sarah, who carried the Olympic flame. The circles also offer a unique level of transparency – allowing people to see right to the heart of the torch where the Olympic Flame is kept alive.

Thanks to Paul Howell of the Oldmixon Uphill Karate Club for the great photo of Sarah top left. And to Nicola Jacobs from Bristol Karate Club for sending us her image, top right.
