The WKU Winter Invitational 2011 was held at the end of November at Hutton Moor, Weston super Mare. It proved a very successful tournament with WKU excellently represented by all who took part.
Good results for WKU with medals for both the senior male and female kumite teams. WKU men’s A and B teams took gold and silver and WKU ladies B Team took silver and bronze.
In great form, Sarah Clark won two golds for WKU in both her kumite categories.
Well done to Kirsty Bush who took gold in her bout. And more WKU success from the ladies with Rachel Taylor and Chontelle Sewell. Rachel won silver in her category with Chontelle taking bronze.
Open weight mens 18+ saw gold and silver won by Lee and Steve Heath respectively. Lee and Steve also won their 3rd kyu 70k+ with WKU’s Ali Nyoni taking the bronze.
WKU’s Paul James and Nick Krsteff fought well. Paul took silver and Nick won bronze in their bout.
Another clutch of medals for WKU in the kata competitions with Derek Wong taking silver and Paul Green bronze in the mixed veterans category. Congratulations to James Govind-Somers who won gold in the male 16+ black belt kata.
Well done to WKU’s junior girls in their kumite categories where Jade Hoddinott and Bethan Atkins took gold, Chloe Rhodes silver and Megan Bowen and Evie Smith bronze.
WKU had even further success in the junior mixed kata categories, a huge well done to Erin Clayton and Lizzie Haynes taking silver and Thomas White bronze, as well as Billy Haynes and Avani Kilsby who took away silver and bronze in their category.
